Flag-UniMatch — Terms of Service
Effective date: 1 November 2026 Operator: Shotaro Denda ("we", "us"), Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia Contact: support@flag-unimatch.com
These Terms are an agreement between you and us about your use of the Flag-UniMatch mobile app (the "App"). By creating an account you agree to these Terms, our Privacy Policy and our Community Guidelines. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. What the App is
Flag-UniMatch helps students at the same university find friends through shared interests, and find people to do things with by posting "flags". You can only see, match with and talk to verified students of your own university.
Flag-UniMatch is an independent service. It is not operated, sponsored or endorsed by University of Wollongong Malaysia or any other university.
2. Who can use the App
To use the App you must:
- be 18 years old or older;
- have an active student email address at a university we support (currently
@student.uow.edu.myonly); - give a true date of birth;
- have only one account.
We may ask you to confirm your identity through your university email if your account is reported (for example, for impersonation).
3. Your account
- You sign in with a one-time code sent to your university email. Keep access to that email safe; anyone who can read it can sign in as you.
- Your university is set from your email address and cannot be changed.
- You can choose any display name, but you must not pretend to be another person.
- You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. What happens to your data is explained in the Privacy Policy.
4. Free trial and subscription
- New accounts can use every feature free for 7 days after sign-up. The free trial is available once per university email, even if you delete your account and sign up again.
- After the trial, a monthly subscription (shown in the App in your local currency; currently around US$4.99 per month) is needed to keep using all features.
- The subscription is sold and billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). It renews automatically every month until you cancel it in your store account settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the current paid month.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own rules. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
- Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Cancel it in your store settings first.
- If you do not have an active trial, subscription or free pass, your account becomes read-only: you can still read your chats, friends and flags, change settings, block, report and delete your account, but you cannot send messages, send friend requests, post or join flags, or give labels.
- We may give some users a free pass (for example, pilot participants). A free pass can have an end date.
- We will tell you in advance, in the App, before we change the price. A price change does not apply to a month you have already paid for.
5. Your content
"Your content" means anything you add to the App: your profile, photos, messages, voice messages, stickers, flags and group chats.
- You keep ownership of your content.
- You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process and show your content only to run the App (for example, to show your profile to students of your university or deliver your messages). This licence ends when your content is deleted, except where we must keep it as described in the Privacy Policy (for example, for a report).
- You are responsible for your content. You must have the right to share it, and it must follow the Community Guidelines.
- Chats disappear after 48 hours. Do not rely on the App to keep your messages. The people you talk with can see when you have read their messages.
- Flags. The students you choose can see your flag. When you accept someone, they become your friend and join the flag's group chat. A shared picture of someone else's flag never shows the host's name or the place.
- Meeting in person is your own decision and at your own risk. Meet in public places and tell someone where you are going.
- Labels you give are anonymous. Do not use them to harass anyone.
6. Rules
You must follow the Community Guidelines. In particular, you must not:
- harass, threaten, bully or discriminate against anyone;
- share sexual content, or any content involving a person under 18;
- share other people's private information or photos without their permission;
- impersonate anyone, or create more than one account;
- send spam, advertising or scams;
- use the App for anything illegal under Malaysian law;
- copy, scrape, reverse-engineer or interfere with the App, or try to access data that is not yours.
7. Reports, safety and enforcement
- You can block and report users, messages and flags in the App.
- When you report someone, we keep a copy of the recent conversation (including photos and voice messages) for up to 90 days so we can investigate.
- If you break these Terms or the Community Guidelines, we may remove content, warn you, suspend your account for a period, or permanently ban you. We tell you the reason by email. A banned person cannot sign up again with the same email. We decide based on the reports and evidence we have and may act without notice when someone's safety is at risk.
- If you believe we made a mistake, contact us at support@flag-unimatch.com.
- We may report illegal content to the authorities when the law requires it.
8. Availability and changes to the App
We are a small team running a pilot. We try to keep the App working, but we do not promise that it will always be available, error-free or that any feature will stay the same. We may change or stop features. If we stop the whole service, we will tell you in the App at least 30 days before and stop charging new renewals.
9. Liability
- The App is provided "as is". We are not responsible for what other users say or do, on or off the App. Be careful when meeting people in person.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data (including messages that expire after 48 hours).
- Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under Malaysian law that cannot be limited, including under the Consumer Protection Act 1999.
10. Ending these Terms
You can stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your account as described in section 7, or if we stop the service.
11. Changes to these Terms
If we make important changes, we will show the new version in the App and ask you to agree again before you continue. The version and date you agreed to are recorded.
12. Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia. Disputes go to the courts of Malaysia, unless the law gives you another choice.
